Tips for glowing skin this Spring

Sarah Burke

It is very difficult in the midst of what seems like a never-ending lockdown to find positives.

But there is something to look forward to: Spring is here!

Perhaps services from our beloved professionals aren’t currently available but we can still plan for our skin to glow more than ever before for the spring and summer months.

How do we achieve this? Well, there are natural ways of capturing that glow we all desire and there are other methods, including makeup techniques, that we can use to make our skin shine.

Wear SPF, even indoors

If you take even one thing from this article, then it should be that wearing SPF on your face and neck every day is non-negotiable. When it comes to sun protection, one of the most common misconceptions is that you do not need to wear it indoors or on a cloudy day.

Even when it is cloudy, 80 per cent of the UV light affects our skin, clear evidence that we need  sun protection.

Wearing it every day protects your skin from the sun’s UV light, but not only that the product has other benefits, and it has been realized by many that a really good sunscreen gives you that beautiful glow – imagine your face with a sheer highlighter.

Stay hydrated

Try your best to drink at least eight glasses of water per day to help your body flush out toxins.

The unfortunate truth about drinking water is that it will reach everywhere before it treats the skin so it is important to apply water directly on to skin, wash regularly and use a hydrating moisturiser for your skin type.

If you’re not sure which skin type you have, talk to an expert.

Expert makeup advice for dewy and glowy skin

What is the secret to unlocking perfectly dewy and glowy skin for the spring and summer months? @Makeupbykelly, a self-taught makeup artist that you can find on Instagram, offers some of her top tips and products for getting the dewiest skin possible.

“The Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter – everybody needs this in their makeup kit. It’s a bit pricey but it is definitely worth it,” she said.

“The Becca skin love glow glaze stick is beautiful. It gives a natural highlighting effect. Depending on your skin type, liquid products like cream highlighters and cream contours are your best friend when wanting to achieve that glowy look.”

Kelly’s technique for applying makeup to achieve the perfect dewy skin is to do her eyes first to avoid fallout.

She then likes to prime, and she suggested the MUA pro-base as it is a moisturizing primer that removes dryness and rejuvenates the skin.

She then goes in with the Bobbie Brown vitamin enriched face base and then does her flawless filter, concealer, cream contour, bronzer, blush, highlighter and then lashes.

“You don’t need to set your face too much with powder. The powder makes it dry and patchy so avoid this and make sure you’ve got your skincare routine down beforehand because taking care of your skin and moisturizing properly is half the battle.”

The Fenty gloss is Kelly’s go-to gloss for the summer, creating a perfect dewy look that ties everything together.

“If you’re going for a glowy look – you have to use your blush. Oftentimes people shy away from blush, but it is essential to complete the look”.

Kelly suggested the Charlotte Tilbury beauty light wand in ‘pink gasm’, a cream blush which adds a natural rosy look.
