Eliott Grennan is running unopposed for Clubs Officer, a second year Aviation Management student, who believes he has a drive to make clubs more inclusive.
His love for clubs goes hand in hand with his love for sports. “I played practically every sport under the moon when I was growing up”, he said.
Within the DCU community, Grennan is a member of the Volleyball Club along with the Table Tennis Club. Outside of the college he is a member of The Clontarf Rugby Club.
With over 30 clubs in the college, each one set up by a student, he believes clubs are important as an outlet from education.
He believes “you can’t spend your whole life doing one facet, no matter how important, you need time to do other things, time to spend with friends and family – we need time to go drinking, time to do activities with your club”.
Hoping to encourage clubs to carry out their roles, Grennan wants to hold weekly competitions for the club with the best reaction picture for each week.
Grennan plans to bring back ‘Give it a Go Week’, with the aim to take this further and reintroduce it as ‘Give it a Go Month’.
If elected he hopes DCU societies will collaborate on the ‘Give it a Go Month’. Through this, he says he will merge a single club and society to work together for a day in order to encourage students to join new clubs.
Voting for DCUSU elections takes place on March 24th and 25th, information on all candidates can be found at https://www.lead.dcusu.ie/
