Enactus DCU won a place in the Enactus World Cup in Silicon Valley next week.

Since beating several other Enactus groups from Irish third level institutions in the national competition in May, the DCU Enactus Society have been preparing their presentation for the World Cup.

“Honestly, it’s surreal. I had no idea a year ago today, when I was starting my first year at DCU, that I would be about to embark on a trip to the states with my team,” said Kate Dowling, a member of the DCU Enactus Team Leader.

The presenting team includes Conor Greene, Ashling McGovern, Ciaran Kelly, Robert Kelly, Josh Clinton and Kate Dowling. This team will present a 17-minute script that they have produced and edited themselves.

“We’re in the maclabs most evenings working on our presentation script and doing rehearsals,” said Dowling.

Dowling said her position entails the leading of all Enactus projects and that balancing these projects alongside the preparation for the World Cup has been challenging for the society.

“We also have our duties to society life in DCU’ and explained how although they are focused on preparing for competition, they still want to ‘spread awareness of what Enactus is,” Chairperson Terence Rooney said.

Three of these projects are the basis of the team’s presentation, and their success outside of the competitive world is growing by the day.

Giveback.ie, an extension of Google chrome which allows a percentage of all online purchases to go to a homelessness charity, all without any cost to the consumer, is an example of one of these projects and is in particular the ‘flagship project’ for the World Cup presentation according to Dowling.

“It’s hard to believe at times. At the end of the day we’re still just students and even friends above everything else,” said Rooney.

“Honestly, it’s surreal. I had no idea a year ago today, when I was starting my first year at DCU, that I would be about to embark on a trip to the states with my team,” said Dowling while reflecting on her teams success.
