A new on-campus talent competition this year aims to give students an opportunity to showcase their skills, while also supporting the world-renowned emergency relief organisation UNICEF.
One of the organisers of DCU’s Got Talent, Maria Murilo, explained the competition’s specific goal.
“We are trying to support the zero target. Every day, 19000 children die from causes that we can prevent like malaria, malnutrition and exposure. We believe that number should be zero.”
The initiative kick-started with promotional sign-up events in the Hub on February 19th and 24th. Around thirty acts will be participating in this year’s contest.
The first auditions took place in The Venue last Thursday and the second will take place tomorrow, Thursday March 6th, before the competition final takes to the stage on April 3rd. Both shows also take place in the Venue.
A competition will also be held as part of the event with €200 in cash up for grabs for the winner; a three-course dinner prepared by a four-star chef for you and up to five friends in the comfort of your own home for the runner-up; and a dinner for two in an upmarket Dublin City Centre restaurant for the third-placed runner up.
