A new Dublin-based programme aims to help young people beat unemployment and start their own enterprises. Occupation Transformation, an 18-week, FETAC-accredited course, is being run in conjunction with non-profit organisation PARTAS.
Chief Executive of PARTAS, John Kearns, is aware that many young people are experiencing unemployment at present despite having third-level qualifications. Advertisements for the programme ask “is this what you’ve put in all that study for? Emigration is an option some of your friends have chosen but you’re not that sure. And why should you have to?”
According to Kearns: “Just a quarter of people aged between 18 and 25 are working in Ireland today… Unless this is remedied soon we face the probability of leaving an entire generation behind. Occupation Transformation offers a new opportunity to young people willing to take matters into their own hands.”
Those aged 18-25 who have been unemployed for a year or more and are actively seeking employment are eligible for the course. The course offers FETAC accreditation in modules such as Starting your own Business, Career Planning and Sales and Marketing Management. Also included are two weeks’ work experience, mentoring and networking opportunities.
