DCU Saints remain undefeated in the Niveau for Men’s Superleague, after back-to-back wins over Moycullen. The Saints emerged with an 8 point victory in the DCU Arena, with a score line of 95-83, and followed that up a week later with a 62-64 win at NUIG’s Kingfisher Centre in Galway.
DCU’s impressive second-half display and a strong defensive performance propelled them past Moycullen at the DCU Arena. New Head Coach for the 2011/2012 David Donnelly season was happy with the result, but wants his team’s rebounding to improve. “We still didn’t focus in on owning the boards…Moycullen really battered us on rebounding and it has to improve if we want to remain at the top of the league.” Centre Matins Provizors was top scorer for DCU with 21 points and Keith Anderson netted 16 points.
The Saints then recorded the double over Enda Byrt’s side the following week, battling to a 62-64 away win. Moycullen led by two points with just 14 seconds remaining through a Cian Nihill jump shot, but an Emmett Donnelly score tied the game. The referee then called Moycullen for an unsportsmanlike foul and Mike Trimmer kept his composure to clinch a dramatic win for DCU. Point Guard Patrick Glover led the scoring for the Saints with 17 points. Martins Provisors produced another superb performance netting 16 points. The 6’8” Latvian also had 13 rebounds, 7 defensive and 6 offensive, and has an average of 9 rebounds per game this season.
DCU Saints fine run of form means they are now top of the Northern Conference in the Niveau for Men’s Superleague, alongside 11890 Killester. Elsewhere, DCU Mercy also remain unbeaten in the Niveau Women’s Superleague. They had a comfortable 40-58 victory in their Dublin derby with Peugeot Meteors. The 2011 National Cup Winners controlled the game from the start, and forced 28 Peugeot Meteor’s turnovers. Former Irish International Lindsay Peat netted 11 points and also gathered 6 rebounds. Forward Susanne Maguire also contributed to the win for DCU with 11 points as well. DCU Mercy now shares the top spot in Niveau Women’s Superleague with TM Hotel Cork and UL Aughinish, after three successive wins.
