A BA student in Global Business (USA) was last week unveiled as the DCU VIP Fresher for 2013.
Nadine Faughey West from County Louth was awarded the title on account of her ‘original’ submission to the competition run by DCU’s Marketing and Communications Department.
Students were asked to submit a short video explaining why they wanted to come to DCU and what they felt they could offer as a DCU VIP Fresher.
The 18-year-old, who attended St Oliver’s Community College, Drogheda, chose DCU because it offered her “ideal course, with 2 work placements at home and abroad”. She feels it was her “random approach” that won her the prize: “I wasn’t very convincing, just very random”.
Nadine read about the promotional competition on the DCU Facebook page and decided to take a camera around her hometown with a friend. “We just filmed loads of random stuff and edited it together”, she explained.
Her prize includes free accommodation, vouchers for the restaurant and Spar on campus, free entry to all student union events, free gym membership and vouchers for the on campus hairdressing salon.
Nadine is settling well into life as a DCU fresher: “I’ve met so many great people already and the events held by the Student Union at night have been the best bit so far.”
She believes the competition “is a brilliant idea, no other college offers such an amazing opportunity”.
Following it’s success this year, the competition to find DCU’s VIP Fresher is set to become an annual event, with one lucky first year being awarded the ultimate VIP package.
