DCU has announced that the university’s second semester will be held through online learning with the exception of essential laboratories, practical classes and skills-based learning sessions.
The students of DCU were informed by email on October 29, of the university’s decision to continue semester 2 classes online.
Following public health advice for higher education into Spring of 2021, DCU’s semester 2 timetable will priorities essential on-campus classes like laboratories, practical’s and skills-based learning, with all other learning activities to take place online.
The university plans to continue the delivery of online lectures and enhanced online resources to support students learning.
DCU stated that: “If restrictions are eased and guidelines allow it, we will make every effort to include some face-to-face sessions to enhance learning even if only on a limited basis, and to organise campus-based social and sporting activities.”
The university’s library will be kept open with bookable study spaces and extended click-and-collect services.
According to the office of Vice President for Academic Affairs, the university has confirmed the decision to continue teaching online in order to work on building a timetable and prepare resources for teaching.
“Education is a national priority and it is our first priority to ensure you can continue your studies with minimal disruption.
“We also want to provide clarity for students who may be making or revising plans regarding accommodation, and for international students considering travel bookings and visa applications.”
DCU Campus Residences offers students the choice of booking short stay accommodation to cater for timetable changes and lack of on-campus hours due to restrictions and online learning.
After DCU’s announcement, DCU’s Student’s Union released a statement saying: “We know that this afternoon’s announcement has brought a lot of disappointment for students. In light of the announcement that teaching and learning will remain as is for the rest of the year, there is a lot of work to be done.”
