Lana Del Rey surprised fans with a glimpse of her upcoming album which drops this year after Covid-19 delayed the original release date. Her new album, Chemtrails Over the Country Club follows the success of 2019’s Norman Fucking Rockwell!
The songstress posted new images for her 18.1 million Instagram followers of the album’s tracklist and in a separate post, shared what appeared to be the cover for her seventh studio album: A black and white image of glamorous women sitting around a picnic table as they eloquently posed in a Gatsby-esque style.
She captioned the Instagram post: “There’s always turmoil and upheaval and in the midst of it – there’s always beautiful music too.”
As this is the singer’s seventh studio album with 11 titled tracks, Dey Rey is expected to do what she does best and deliver an album of charming and seductive music with hints of sultry notes from the singers old Hollywood style.
Del Rey arrived onto the music scene with her 60’s era Hollywood look after she reinvented herself from the struggling singer-songwriter, Lizzy Grant, to the alluring and chic Lana Del Rey.
The artist with a reputation of old money glamour and dreamy music has been hit with controversy throughout her career.
Her most recent backlash arose after her comments on Donald Trump, to accusations made against her of racism, Dey Rey accused the media of taking her “well-intentioned and believe it or not liberal comments” out of context.
After the Capitol riot by President Trump supporters, Del Rey was speaking on BBC Radio 1’s “Future Sounds”, when she told host Annie Mac that Trump “doesn’t know that he’s inciting a riot.”
The Grammy-nominated artist has been plagued by controversy throughout her ten-year career, as she’s been the target of accusations that she “glamorises abuse”, mainly through her lyrical portrayal of relationships between a younger woman and an older man, most notably in her lyrical reference to the movie Lolita, based on a relationship between a minor and an older male figure.
In May 2020, Del Rey was accused of racism after uploading a statement to social media that she had written about double standards in the music industry.
In a lengthy Instagram post the” Born to die” singer claimed she had been branded as an anti-feminist, despite singing about similar situations and themes as other female artists in the industry.
In her statement, Del Rey singled out artists Nicki Minaj and Beyonce – both of whom are women of colour. In a response to the accusations, the singer said: “Don’t ever ever ever call me racist.”
Although the 35-year-old artist and poet has been subject to several scandals throughout her career, Lana Del Rey has solidified her place and image in the music industry, as she continues to release her creativity through her alluring music and poetry.
