New Pool Soc Chair Elected Days after Former Chair’s Resignation

Charlie Buckley was elected Chairperson of Pool and Snooker Society on Thursday night after beating the former Vice-Chair 24 votes to 16 in a result that provoked “half of the room” to leave.

The results come just days after the former chairperson’s attempt to hold a ‘closed-door election’ in which they promptly resigned, leaving the vice-chair to run.

Several DCU Student Life Officers were in attendance at the request of committee members to ensure the election was delivered in line with DCU Clubs and Societies’ regulations.

The Instagram account belonging to the Society, that officially elected members previously had trouble accessing, has been removed from the social network leaving an official social media announcement to the days ahead.

Regarding the election, the Society provided a statement thanking the former chairpersons for their hard work in “building this society” over the last eight months, while mentioning that DCU “deserves to have a functioning society that is fair and inclusive to all members, and we are committed to our roles in providing this.”

As one of DCU’s newest societies, starting back in February 2025, Pool and Snooker Society has faced a rocky start, and still faces civil strife, but looks to get back on its feet as it motors on for another semester.
