The daffodils are beginning to bloom, the birds are chirping once more and Cupid is back at it with his trusty bow and arrow, ready to stir up some mischief. That‘s right, love is in the air again as Valentine’s Day approaches.

Here at the College View, we’ve put the ultimate guide together, to make the most out of the holiday. Whether you are boo-ed up, going out with your pals or just treating yourself out on a solo date.

  1. Lane 7

Feeling playful and up for a bit of fun? Lane 7 has you covered! Now open in Dundrum, (above Jamie Oliver’s restaurant), it promises you the perfect place to show off your dart skills to your date, challenge your mates to a competitive bowling match, or beat your own basketball arcade high score. Oh and did I mention there’s a bar on site woohoo?

2. The Girls Room

If you’re looking for good music, great vibes, and a fun night out with friends, look no further than The Girl’s Room!

This is where you become besties with the girlies reapplying their lipstick in the girl’s bathroom. The Girls Room hosts events for women and nonbinary. They are hosting a special Galentines event, in the Workman cellar this Valentine’s night! It is the perfect cutesy date place, but also an amazing time with your friends! And don’t be afraid to go alone either. From my own experience, The Girl Room will create a WhatsApp group for fellow solo partygoers to meet! So definitely make sure to get tickets as they sell out in advance!

3. Dolce Sicily

Prefer a sweet and easy Valentine’s night, more your vibe than clubbing? Then make sure to check out Dolce Sicily. Located on a small street just off Grafton Street, it promises authentic Italian food and desserts.

A personal favourite spot of mine. I can wholeheartedly recommend the pistachio tiramisu and the ricotta and Nutella tart. Treat yourself to an Aperol Spritz and that’s a sweet Valentines if you ask me. Just be sure to book in advance for Valentine’s as the beautiful decor inside makes this a popular spot for couples and you don’t want to miss out!

4. Rainforest adventure golf

Want to feel like you’re in a 90s romcom this Valentine’s day? A round of mini golf in the Rainforest Adventure Golf should do the trick in Dundrum town centre. It’s a bit cliche but always a cute date and who doesn’t like that? A great place with your mates too!

5. Stella Cinema

For a more chilled but luxurious evening and comfy sofas, check out the Stella Cinema. There are two locations. One in Rathmines and one in Ranelagh. Enjoy a 1920s vibe, watching old Hollywood classics or new releases and sip on some gorgeous cocktails. This cinema will turn your average film night into a magical evening of romance.

6. Axe Throwing

Ok so chill is not really your thing, Maybe you have some built-up rage, who am I to judge? Maybe Valentine’s is not your favourite holiday and you want to vent Viking style. Or maybe you and your boo have a more competitive bonding style. Axe throwing might be the best fit for you to spend your Valentine’s. A short bus away from Dublin city centre just off Gaelic street in Dublin 3, with tickets approx €25 per person, axe throwing promises a unique Valentine’s day for sure.

7. Buskers

Buskers located in Temple Bar, is similar to Lane 7 but has a more chilled-out vibe. Inside there is a pool, arcade games, hockey tables and so much more. Buskers also offers a delicious menu (definitely try the loaded nachos), and scrumptious cocktails I could go on forever. Either way, even if you decide to go by with your darling or your mates, it promises a fantastic time!

No matter how you are spending Valentine’s Day, there is no reason to stay inside. Dublin has so much to offer. Whether you are after romance, or just a fun night with your friends. Go on out and enjoy it!
