This year’s editorial board of The College View will be led by Katie O’Shaughnessy & Leonor Selas Amaral.
Katie O’Shaughnessy is this year’s Editor in Chief. She is a second year journalism student. She began her work with TCV reviewing DCU Drama’s play ‘The Snapper’. She later became the News Editor in her second semester. She has written a vast range of articles for the student publication including pieces on the MPS 24 Hour Broadcast and Seanad reform to support Palestine.
Katie is keen to start leading the student publication. She sees herself as a print journalist in the making, inspired by writers like Joan Didion, Nora Ephron and Jia Tolentino. Her dream is to be a feature writer for The New Yorker. But for now, she is delighted to be this year’s EIC. She is looking forward to producing many articles for the TCV website, and is hopeful that the newspaper’s physical presence will be restored later in the year. She would be ecstatic to see student’s all across campus reading The College View’s print edition.
She is eager for TCV to thrive within the award winning Media Production Society, and is hopeful to foster cross-campus connections with other student publications.
Leonor Selas Amaral is this year’s Deputy Chief Editor. She is a second-year communication studies student, and began her work on TCV as sub-editor. Alongside being sub-editor, she also wrote pieces for the lifestyle and news section.
Leonor is excited to be able to hone her leadership skills and to help others in their writing abilities. She is hopeful that she will be a good mentor, and that she will be able to create a positive and healthy environment around the newspaper. She hopes to pass forward her love for journalism and passion for writing.
Leonor has a strong background in the area of languages, both spoken and written. From knowing more than one language fluently, to being a strong debater, both on paper and verbally, Leonor hopes to be able to pass on those skills to Undergraduate and Masters students alike. Leonor also has a strong background in photojournalism, and hopes to be able to teach and pass forward those skills to aspiring writers.
She is also very excited for the publication of The College View’s app, which will be coming to the app store soon!
Katie and Leonor are delighted to be expanding their editorial team. Applications are available through The College View’s Instagram. They are looking for editors to lead the seven core TCV sections: News, Lifestyle, Sports, Opinion & Features, THE HYPE, Irish & Languages, Satire & Cartoon. Editors are responsible for pitching ideas at editorial meetings, keeping contributors on task toward fulfilling their pitches & will be expected to write liberally themselves.
