Christmas Miracle: DCU TV’s 24-hour broadcast raises €12,820 for Jack and Jill Foundation

The DCU 24 2024 Broadcast raised 12,820 euro in aid of Jack and Jill, as an incredible group of students took to the stage to delight around the clock with sketches, songs and a ton of talent.

The Broadcast encompassed many hours of hard work by all in the Media Production Society, who kept the show running for 24 hours. Within those 24 hours there were some iconic shows like ‘The Early Early Product Placement’ and ‘Get Flexy’, as well as some incredible new ones like ‘Would I Lie to DCU’ and ‘Bird Brains’.

MPS treated followers to a range of prizes during the ’12 Days of Broadcast’ leading up to the main event. Prizes included a Gym Membership from the DCU Sports Centre and two tickets to Rod Stewart.

The shows were both live and pre-recorded. I took part in two pre-recorded bits alongside my ‘partner-in-crime’ Sarah O’Donnell. Our show ‘DCU Cribs’ took on a tour to all of DCU’s accommodations, with the help of many wonderful and willing hosts. And ‘Come On Knowledge’ had us running around Glasnevin on Christmas Day looking for willing participants to answer a range of questions for a few chocolates.

Ads added colour between shows and stings from celebrities like musician Daniel O’Donnell and presenters of Virgin Media’s Six O’Clock Show Brian Dowling Gourounlian and Katja Mia.

The show was sponsored by a number of fabulous brands including An Post, Londis, Mediahuis and most importantly for the big all-nighter, Red Bull.

The broadcast has reached almost 4,000 views and counting. In the shows final two hours a live audience filled the Venue of the U building to come and see some of the final performances.
