The Chief Operations Officer of DCU has confirmed to students that the University will continue to require masks indoors in all buildings until March 21st.

Declan Raftery sent this update in an email to all undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD students on Friday afternoon confirming the University’s stance on the lifting of restrictions on Monday.

As of this Monday, most COVID-19 restrictions are to be lifted, including removing the legal regulation to wear face coverings in retail settings and public transport, and the lifting of protective measures in schools, such as pods and social distancing.

However masks will still be required in DCU until March 21st.

“The wearing of masks is a relatively minor inconvenience but yet does provide substantial protection from the transmission of COVID-19,” Mr. Raftery said.

Raftery said that from March 21st, it will be a “personal choice” if people want to continue wearing masks.

He also confirmed that PPE, masks, antigen tests and hand sanitises will continue to be made available until the end of this second semester, April 2nd.
