Final preparations are underway for DCUfm’s first “out of studio” 12 Hour Broadcast, which takes place from 10am to 10pm this Friday, 16th April.
The twelve-hour broadcast has taken place since 2012, however it will be somewhat different this year, as the regular DCUfm studio in the Glasnevin Campus will not be used.
Speaking to The College View, DCUfm Station Manager Sarah McGuinness said it will be streamed on the station’s Twitch page, in partnership with the streaming service StreamYard.
“It is a really collaborative and unique twelve hours, where people who love radio can come together, make magic, and raise some money.”
Each year, both the DCUtv 24-Hour Broadcast and the DCUfm 12-Hour Broadcast are held in aid of a chosen charity.
This year, the Media Production Society, which runs DCUfm and DCUtv, chose to donate to the RISE Foundation, who educate families about addictive behaviour, such as alcohol, drugs and gambling.
“Committee members spoke so highly of them in combating the stigma surrounding addiction and substance dependency,” McGuinness said.
“We decided to go with them for both broadcasts, and it would be nice to focus our attention on the one charity and to raise money for such an amazing cause.”
In an Instagram post, DCUfm said they were honoured to be donating to an “incredible organisation that does great work in Ireland.”
McGuinness also said that the broadcast will have lots of voices:
“It is a great way to show the broad range of talent we have in DCUfm. Each slot will have different presenters, based on what show is happening at the time.”
McGuinness did not give much away, but she said there is twelve hours of “amazing content” planned, with “new voices working with each other, along with some favourites over the past year.”
“It’s going to be chaotic, but so much fun!”
Sarah’s tenure as one of two DCUfm station managers comes to an close at the end of the academic year, where newly elected station managers will take over.
Speaking on her time as station manager, she said having the chance to help run DCUfm was “unbelievable”, adding she loved “getting to meet and help new people.”
Alongside the radio broadcast, DCUtv are also planning their 24-Hour Broadcast, which takes place across the 17th and 18th May, which will also be in aid of the RISE Foundation.
