[dropcap]The[/dropcap] Netflix miniseries’ ending will both impress and frustrate you for missing the major clues.
Based on the 2017 novel by Sarah Pinborough, ‘Behind Her Eyes’ centres on a woman entangled in a deeply troubled marriage.
Simona Brown plays the role of Louise, a young single mum from London who begins an affair with her boss, David – a psychiatrist played by Tom Bateman.
We see Louise form an unlikely, somewhat forced friendship with David’s wife, Adele (Eve Hewson) who appears withdrawn from reality. At Adele’s request, the friendship is kept a secret from her husband.
Louise sinks deeper and deeper into an unconventional love triangle as David and Adele each become increasingly dependent on her. Despite red flags and multiple warnings from her friend, she relishes being the centre of attention for once.
This becomes hugely frustrating for the audience as she completely disregards how this might affect her young son’s safety.
Hewson’s portrayal of Adele is awe-worthy and haunting. Her character is robotic and tends to hide her emotion and true thoughts.
As the show progresses, we see a different side to her through flashbacks to when she was in a psychiatric unit after she experienced a family tragedy.
Through her friendship with Rob, a character we don’t get to see in the present day, we see a lively and adventurous side to her that is no longer evident.
The six-episode series will make you constantly question who is the victim and who is the perpetrator. Just when you think you’ve solved the mystery, it throws you off guard again.
Although ‘Behind Her Eyes’ begins as a psychological thriller it slowly builds to a science fiction and supernatural series.
It will keep you awake at night thinking about how you were deceived with the shocking twist in the finale, even though all the clues were there from the beginning.
The perfect cast and unsettling storyline make it the must-see series on Netflix right now.
