Dublin City University has agreed to purchase the 16 acre All Hallows College site in Drumcondra, valued at €14 million.
All Hallows had already been a college of DCU since 2008, with the university accrediting the college’s degrees. The college wound down operations in May 2014 after facing financial difficulties, leaving over 450 students not knowing if they could complete their degree programs.
The site comes with extra student accommodation for DCU, with 45 extra beds in one block and 50 en suite rooms in the college’s conference centre. All Hallows lies just 300 meters away from St Patrick’s College.
Academic operations will finish up in December with the postgraduate students graduating, and the rest of the student body transferring to DCU. Redundancy payments will be made available to staff.
On the sale, DCU president Prof Brian MacCraith welcomed “this unique opportunity to preserve the All Hallows campus as an educational facility and to continue its long and distinguished history in education and social justice”.
All Hallows College president, Dr Patrick McDevitt, said “we have every confidence that the university [DCU] has an understanding and respect for our heritage and legacy.”
The campus will be renamed to the DCU All Hallows Campus, and becomes part of the new DCU which will see the incorporation of St Patrick’s College, Mater Dei Institute of Education, and the Church of Ireland College of Education in 2016.
