1. To celebrate/drown your sorrows after receiving exam results
What better way to celebrate the fact that you’re officially a genius (you got over 50% in two whole modules after all) than by skulling back a few cans of Jack Slattery’s while lounging on the colourful couches of DCU’s welcoming student bar.
If you’re on the other end of the spectrum, i.e. a failure, then you might as well kill off any remaining brain cells. You can repeat the exams but you can’t repeat the craic.
2. To give yourself a pat on the back for attending a lecture
Sometimes lectures can be stressful, especially when your course has an overwhelming four hours every week. After enduring the stuffiness of the lecture hall, the monotony of the lecturer’s voice and the hardship of taking down notes from the first two slides, it’s understandable that you’d want to unwind with a pint and discuss the traumatic ordeal you just experienced.
3. To give yourself the courage to attend a lecture
Other times, the thoughts of going to a lecture are just so damn depressing that you need a bit of Dutch courage to prepare yourself. A couple of Woo Woos and you’ll be Woo Woo-ing all the way to class. (If this is happening to you on a regular basis, you might just have a drinking problem and should probably seek help.)
4. To avoid attending a lecture
This one speaks for itself really. NuBar > Class. Always.
5. To get chicken goujons and chips
The goujons and chips from the NuBar are renowned worldwide… Or citywide at the very least. They’ve been described as DCU’s equivalent to ambrosia (the food of Greek gods) and are like a party in your mouth. With everyone invited.
7. For some Sex in the Hub
DCU’s answer to ‘Sex on the Beach’ is extremely popular amongst the female students in particular, probably because of the classic banter it creates with the bar staff:
“What can I get you?”
“Sex in the Hub.”
“Alright, let’s go.”
Some seriously saucy stuff.
8. For various events/balls
Where would DCU’s balls be without NuBar? There’s no greater class bonding experience than making sure your friends will be hanging tomorrow courtesy of NuBar.
