Two DCU graduates have begun to record and produce a ten-week comedy panel show for radio station Newstalk 106-108 FM in The Helix.
Television producer and presenter Pat O’Mahony and Mark Warren of Firebrand Productions have invited students and friends to attend live recordings of their show ‘You Couldn’t Make It Up’ on this and consecutive Friday evenings.
Some of the best in Irish and international comedic talent are set to appear on the show, who will let loose on the previous week’s events; analysing, debating and /or ridiculing them as they so wish.
For the last act, O’Mahony will assign characters, quotes and scenarios, inspired by the opening round, to each team who will then have to turn them into a pair of satirical sketches, which will be performed as the climax of the show.
This format arose, as many ideas do, as a result of a conversation in a pub. Warren was asked about how to construct a story, “which got him thinking about the basic elements involved”, explained O’Mahony. The pair have gotten the format to air after almost three years of trying, so “hopefully good things come to those who wait”.
The first show in the series, recorded last Friday, featured comedians Karl Spain, Tara Flynn, Colm O’Regan and Morgan C. Jones – take a listen to their fun and frivolity here.
The show is recorded in front of a live studio audience over a two-hour period from 6pm.
If you’d like to attend the show this Friday, December 6th, or any of the weeks thereafter, just email comedy@newstalk.ie and let them know how many free tickets you’d like.
