Students ignored the evening chill on Wednesday October 23rd, as they ran across campus clad in panties, bras, boxers and briefs for the annual RAG Underwear Mile.
The novel fundraiser was held by DCU’s Raising and Giving society and raised over €500 for their social projects which include Go Gaga for GAA, Paint Ballymun and Adopt a Grandparent.
This year’s event was more social than last year’s, with the run beginning outside the Hub at 7pm after about 40 participants had been splashed with UV paint. High-tempo music, UV lights and a megaphone all contributed to the party atmosphere.
RAG committee member Jamie Gallagher explained that the society “wanted to do something people will talk about”. A corset-wearing yeti and two runners sporting Borat-style ‘mankinis’ were on hand to help Jamie’s team achieve their goal.
Each participant raised €20 to take part in the event, while students also had an opportunity to donate towards RAG’s projects on the night.
While a final tally from this year’s event still to be announced, RAG Co-Chair, Charlotte Lally told The College View that “over €1,000 was raised at last year’s event.”
She also asked students to approach the committee with any new fundraising ideas for the future.
