Fianna Fáil Ógra remains the biggest political party in DCU, moving up to 60 members after last week’s Refreshers’ Day.
It has recruited 15 new members this semester including 8 at its stand in the hub last Monday.
Chairperson of Fianna Fáil Ógra, Fintan Phelan, spoke to The College View about the society’s increase in members. “The student body is responding positively to the renewal of Fianna Fáil and are acknowledging the hard work being done by our spokesperson on education Charlie McConalogue TD in relation to the unacceptable delays in SUSI grants.”
He continued: “It is also important to note that the Labour Party were nowhere to be seen on Refreshers’ Day. It is clear that they have gone into hiding, which only emphasizes the fact that they have abandoned students since entering into Government.”
The College View attempted to contact Labour DCU for a comment, but they were unavailable.
Young Fine Gael recruited 4 new members on the same day. Their chairman Ryan Hunt expressed his delight at the new additions.
DCU’s Socialist Party Society didn’t have a stand last week either. Chairperson Derek McKenna explained: “We decided not to do a stall as we are looking to recruit new members through our public meetings on campus and the campaigns we will be running.”
