The Twelve Pubs of Christmas has become a staple event on most students Christmas calendar. It is both a mental and physical challenge for the even the most hardened of drinkers. The following is a well-planned and easily followed Twelve Pub’s trail starting off in our very own NuBar and finishing in the one and only CFJ’s.
1) The NuBar
Cheap pints and a mini off-license make our very own NuBar the perfect launch-pad for the Twelve Pubs of Christmas. Students have the option of grabbing a cheeky naggin to tuck into while trekking down the avenue and to keep them going on the bus into town.
2) Doyle’s, Westmoreland Street
A good starting point for any twelve pubs adventure as most buses going through town from DCU stop right beside this popular Dublin watering hole (because walking for miles on a freezing cold winter night is sure to put a dampener on those festive spirits).
3) The Porterhouse Central, Grafton Street
Cheap cocktails and larger pitchers make this spot a good second stop to get the silly season going. There’s also ample bathroom space which is an absolute must as most people will, by now, be in dire need to “break the seal”.
4) The Globe, George’s Street
One of the city’s funkiest late bars with a chilled out upstairs area and plenty of room to have a quick dance after your fourth pint.
5) The Snail Bar/No Name Bar, Fade Street
One of the coolest, mellow bars in the fair city. Walking through the unmarked front door and up the first flight of stairs, you can’t help but feel like you’ve stumbled upon a Manhattan-style house party with great drinks and a chilled out atmosphere. The perfect spot to take a breather and make sure that you’ll at least make it to pub number ten before stumbling into a taxi home.
6) The Dragon, George’s Street
The Dragon is of Dublin’s most popular gay bars and the perfect venue to show off that sexy Christmas Jumper. With great music and an electric atmosphere, this bar is sure to get you buzzing for pub number seven.
7) Capitol, George’s Street
Capitol is home to hundreds of quirky cocktails which cost only €5 each – Grab one and keep on truckin’.
8) Solas, Camden Street
Approximately five minutes’ walk from pub number eight, this welcome break gives those of us still standing a chance to catch their second wind and to find the will to keep drinking.
9) Whelans, Camden Street
Check out the warm open fire beside the front bar in Whelans. If you can refrain from falling asleep, this is a golden opportunity to sweat out some of the alcohol just in time for the final few hurdles.
10) Flannery’s, Camden Street
“The best craic you can have with your clothes on”.
11) BurgerMax/Babylon
Technically both fall into the chipper category, however if you’ve made it thus far on the twelve pubs journey, we reckon you’re more than entitled to some garlic cheese fries to soak up some of the alcohol before the final “piece de resistance”.
12) Copper Face Jacks
Love it or hate it, there’s simply no other way to end the Twelve Pubs of Christmas than last orders in Coppers. The quintessential nightclub of our city and our generation, Coppers still remains the final destination for most college nights out. A one-stop shop for drinking, smoking, dancing and shifting: could you imagine finishing the Twelve Pubs of Christmas anywhere else?
