I must admit that I actively try to dislike anyone who has come through the X Factor (with Jedward being my case and point). However no matter how hard I try I can’t help but love Olly Murs and his new album Right Place Right Time is one of the best I’ve heard this year.
The lead single for this album, “Troublemaker”, has been getting a lot of air time on radio recently and with good reason. It’s exactly the type of happy-go-lucky, up-tempo cheerful tune we’ve come to expect from Murs. Taken from the same mould as “Thinking of Me”, this song gave me that much needed morning kick every day this week.
The album features some slower songs like “Cry Your Heart Out” and “Loud and Clear”. However even these retain Olly’s naturally buoyant temperament.
He seems to draw inspiration from a number of sources for this album and I reckon if you locked Maroon 5, Coldplay and Jason Mraz in a recording studio for a month they’d spit out an album very similar to this one.
No doubt this will be another success for the Englishman as it appeals to everyone. Whether your crawling out of bed, getting ready to go out or simply doing the ironing there’s song’s here for you. X Factor be damned, this guy is good.
