Leading RTE News Anchor, Bryan Dobson officially launched the Media Production Society’s Media Week by addressing media students last Monday.
A wide range of media professionals came in to speak to students throughout the week, including Todayfm Presenter Ian Dempsey, 2fm Presenter Colm Hayes, fashion Stylist Sonja Mohlich and Rachel Towell of Tile Films.
Media students were briefed on the various elements of a career in the media. Students also learned about the shift from public service broadcasting to commercial TV and radio in Ireland, while they were also given advice for life.
Colm Hayes said: “If people love it, they’ll say something. If they hate it they’ll say something. If they say nothing there’s something wrong.” Ian Dempsey also told students about the importance of “knowing your audience”.
Mohlich advised MPS and DCU Style Soc on styling models and people for advertisements, publications, television shows and fashion shows. “Make sure when you pick clothes that you have a story to tell.”
Various other societies also had the chance to take part in the week’s events. On Tuesday night MPS teamed up with both the Accounting and Finance (A&F) Society and the Music Society for a movie night in the nursing building. Wednesday night, students enjoyed a media teamed Open mic night with MPS and Music soc.
The week’s activities came to an end with a performance from the Irish rock group The Saw Doctors in the Hub followed by the Movember Media Ball in D2 night club.
