Dublin City University has ranked 46th in a list of the top Universities less than 50 years old.
DCU is the only Irish higher education institution to feature in the QS World University rankings of new universities. The University of Hong Kong in China topped the list.
DCU also features in the Times Higher Education list of the top 100 universities in the world less than 50 years old, ranking 86th. Two other Irish universities feature on the list, published days after the QS rankings. NUI Maynooth ranked 64th and University of Limerick (UL) ranked 97th.
DCU President, Prof Brian MacCraith said “to be the only Irish university ranked in two internationally-renowned league tables published this week is a major achievement for DCU. It is a testament to the contribution of the whole DCU community and our commitment to excellence in teaching and research.”
Chief Executive of the Higher Education Authority (HEA), Tom Boland welcomed all of Ireland’s young universities featuring on the Times top 100. “This is against a backdrop of major challenges facing our higher education institutions. While there is often dispute as to what rankings measure, Ireland’s universities are always among the top 2% to 3% in the world”.
