Three DCU students will join other regional winners from around Ireland to compete for a place in the World Finals of the The Red Bull Paper Wings competition taking place in Austria, after the event returned to DCU last week for the Engineers Week.
The winners of each of the three categories now go forward with a chance to represent Ireland with an all expenses paid trip to the world finals in Austria the world finals. The regional winners from around Ireland will compete in UCD at the end of March.
The event was part of Day 2 of Engineerss Week and there had a great turnout for the two-hour event held in The Hub. The competition had twice as many participants as the corresponding event had in DCU three years ago.
The judges on the day were Cillian Byrne, Mohammed Ali and Paul Doherty. DCU Force’s Killian Martin stood in as MC.
The competition was split into three categories; Longest distance, longest Airtime and Aerobatics.
Longest Distance, measures the distance between the lift-off and the landing point, was won by Oisin Kilgallen with a distance of 4.25 metres. Longest Airtime was won by Jayme Rossiter with a time of 4.25 seconds. The final category was Aerobatics and it was won by Bilguun Nem with a score of 22 out of 30.
