Enterprise Week, Know Your Rights Week, Seachtain na Gaeilge and Tech Week are all coming to campus in a busy week five.
The DCU Alumni Entrepreneur Network takes place in the Gallery of the Helix tonight. Organised by the Enterprise Society (ESoc), the night will focus on ensuring your business is ‘green’.
Speakers include owner of M2C Ltd Mick Berry, director of Transpoco John Harrington, and general manager of Cylon Active Energy Nicola Dunne. They will discuss how they have implemented ‘green’ policies within their businesses and inform guests on these measures.
Enterprise Week continues tomorrow with a presentation from Pat Gilroy, Dublin senior football manager and manager at Dalkies Utilities. He will speak to students on the importance of balance, the power of teamwork, and what is involved in leadership in both his capacity as Dublin manager and his role at Dalkies Utilities.
Know Your Rights Week is organised by DCU’s Free Legal Advice Centre (FLAC), a body which aims to “provide free legal information, by way of operative clinics, in the professional company of a practicing solicitor or barrister to the student body of DCU”.
An information stand in the Hub will be distributing handbooks on students’ legal rights both today and tomorrow. FLAC also aims to promote the School of Law and Government among students.
FLAC hosts a criminal careers talk with solicitor Catherine Ghent from law firm Gallagher Shatter tomorrow at 6.30pm in C104. Ghent has been working in criminal law for over ten years and is currently working in the field of childcare law
She will speak on the role of barristers in criminal law. Other speakers include former DCU tutor and criminal barrister Rory Staines, and deputy head of the Prosecution Policy Unit in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Rebecca Coen.
The very first game of Countdown in Irish will take place tomorrow night to bring Seachtain na Gaeilge to a close. Two teams, one comprising Irish language lecturers and experts and the other consisting of representatives from Conradh na Gaeilge, will battle it out with the help of dictionary corner and their very own Carol Vorderman figure in the form of the SU’s Irish officer.
Tech Week 2012 is organised by Redbrick. Tonight, Alan Neville from Symantec will talk to students on IDS/IPS evasion techniques. Tomorrow evening, students will be treated to a presentation on CSRF and web security in association with the security and networking technologists Kerna.
