Lecturers and Staff to Take Industrial Action at DCU.

It has been confirmed by Dublin City University’s Vice President for Academic Affairs Lisa Looney that there will be a strike next Wednesday, October 14th.

It has been confirmed by Dublin City University’s Vice President for Academic Affairs Lisa Looney that there will be a strike next Wednesday, October 14th.

Members of the Irish Federation of University Teachers (IFUT) and the Services, Industrial , Professional and Technical Union (SIPTU) have informed the university that their members will strike in relation to the Government’s Public Expiry Agreement 2024-2026.
Members of the unions have expressed concerns over the expiry of the Agreement . According to the website of IFUT, the protest is “ to secure fair pay , delivery of outstanding commitments and respect and respect for collective bargaining.”
Should the strike go ahead, it is understood by the University that all teaching and research activities on campus will be cancelled. All campus buildings , which includes the three libraries, restaurants and office spaces will also be closed. However , Londis on Glasnevin, the Sports Complex , the Creche , the Pharmacy and The Helix will remain open for students who live on campus.
Staff who will not be participating in the strike will be working remotely. There will be a minimal amount of staff on campus to ensure that students living in student accomodation and the campus itself is kept safe.


“..DCU is not in dispute with SIPTU or IFUT. We fully respect colleagues’ right to take lawful industrial action, as well as the decisions of those who choose not to participate.” This was stated by Vice President Lisa Looney in a university wide email sent today regarding the staff who will take part in the protest.
