DCU student and GAA player, Conor Morgan has died while on holiday in Cyprus with friends.

The 19 year old, who studied Business Studies in DCU, is thought to have fallen to his death in the Ayia Napa resort from a second floor balcony. The details of the accident are not yet known.

“He was a fantastic athlete,” said friend and teammate Chris Sweeney. “Besides sport when we were younger we’d all gather in Manydown to play football and have the craic. He was the life of any situation he was in”.

Morgan played for The Dundalk Gaels who announced the tragic death of their “club member, player and great friend Conor ‘Morgie’ Morgan” on Sunday.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family Paul, Blathnaid and Sarah at this incredibly difficult and devastating time. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.”

Friends and neighbouring GAA clubs have paid tribute across social media after the “tragic and untimely” death.

In the Dundalk Democrat, Caoimhín Reilly wrote that “it was in the club that he represented so passionately, Dundalk Gaels, where his ultimate circle of friends lay”. While he was not partially close to Morgan, Reilly said that the tragedy “certainly puts everyone’s life into perspective”.

DCU will be releasing an official statement tomorrow.
