The DCU Ladies basketball side became All-Ireland A League Champions with a thumping 74-44 win over Ulster University in Carlow last Wednesday.

The side enjoyed an unbeaten regular season campaign, going five for five in the North group of the top division.

They carried that momentum into the semi-finals, smashing Cork IT 75-48, before going another one better in the final and comfortably taking the title home after a convincing 30-point victory.

DCU raced into a 43-18 lead at half-time, anchored by a fantastic performance from MVP winner Tiffany Corseilli, and kept their momentum up in the second half to send out a massive statement ahead of the upcoming inter-varsity championships – where the ladies are defending champions.

“We were delighted to win,” said team member Áine McDonnell.

“After having lost last year to the same team it was great for us to win the final.

“We played our Semi-Final against CIT and we had a comprehensive win which definitely made us more confident going into final.

“Our Americans Tiffany and Alex have been great all season and were particularly important in the final. Tiffany won MVP.

“We are really looking forward to inter-varsities in April and are hoping we can defend our title.”
