This year’s Equality Week campaign aims to celebrate our differences but acknowledge our equality.
The campaign was launched by the Students’ Union in The Hub on Monday with this year’s theme as “Fingerprints All of ours are different but we all have them”.
SU Welfare Officer, Neil Collins, is excited about this year’s campaign.
“This year we’re aiming to bring the campus alive and celebrate all the different cultural activity within DCU while acknowledging our equality”, he said. “We’re planning an intercultural food fair and we’re building a finger-print wall to put on display for the week.”
The Chairperson of DCU’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and
Ally society, Oisin Cotter told The College View just how important Equality Week in DCU really is. “It’s very important. Especially since not everyone is equal at the moment.”
The LGBTA Society held a talk last night on marriage equality. Speakers at the event included John Lynch, Aodhán Ó Ríordáin, John Lyons of the Labour party. and Ronan Farren of Marriage equality Ireland.
The LGBTA society also hold a weekly coffee morning on Wednesdays, with an equality themed quiz to mark this week. They are also holding a marriage equality themed flash mob alongside Amnesty international and the DCU drama society.
Oisin Cotter went on to say how important equality is here on campus. “The SU’s fingerprints campaign is very good. It’s true were all the same with very little differences and it’s important to highlight equality.”
