Aisling’s Special Favourites

Pharrell Williams – Marilyn Monroe
Forget ‘Happy’, this is the Pharell song you won’t be able to get enough of. The latest single from his new album G I R L, is an absolute banger. Opening with a string instrumental before moving into his signature beats with a spoken interlude thrown in for good measure, this one’s for playing on repeat while you get ready to go out. If he keeps turning out tunes like this he will cement himself as one of the best in the music industry.

Folkster
This Irish vintage brand is so fabulous that actress Amy Huberman wore one of their gorgeous dresses to the Windsor State Banquet for the Irish state visit last week. Clothes are sourced worldwide and they stock brands like Jeffrey Campbell shoes, Sister Jane clothes and their own Folkster Edit range. Their Shutterbug store in Kilkenny is a pilgrimage for vintage lovers and is best for beaded flapper dresses and long, glamorous ball gowns a la The Great Gatsby. Most pieces might not be within the average student budget but would be perfect for an occasion like a summer wedding. Keep an eye out for annual Shutterbug Vintage Kilo sale where you’ll get a kilo of clothes for just €20.

Lovin’ Dublin
This is a well-established food blog but the simple recipes featured might provide some brain food inspiration for those upcoming end of year assignments and exams. Established by former chef Niall Harbison, the Lovin’ Dublin team now dish up (sorry) reviews of the best restaurants, recipes galore and articles on all that Dublin has to offer. The site also now sells the Lovin’ Box which is a delicious and nutritious lunch box, assembled by a different restaurant every week, that you collect every Wednesday from three city centre locations. The recipes are the real draw of this blog though. Easy, tasty and nutritious. If you are into baking at all I highly recommend the Cheesy Soda Bread recipe. So good.

The Man Repeller
Little bit obsessed with clothes in the last (*sob) column this week but the weather is finally warmer so we can go shopping for clothes besides jumpers. According to its bio, the Man Repeller is a fashion blog dedicated to the celebration of fashion trends that women love and men hate. Think oversized coats, harem pants and er, a gold luxe bomber jacket. This blog is awesome because although you may not want to own everything featured on the site (I think it’s fair to say a lot of women hate some of the more obscure fashion trends too) it’s great for inspiration and reminding you to have fun with fashion.
