Stylefix #7

Shannon O’Sullivan has your style and beauty suss…

Her Look: Vanessa Hudgens
From her innocent High School Musical days to a recent rebellious role in the explicit Spring Breakers, this actress has evolved in more ways than one.

She started out donning pretty preppy outfits but soon developed her own ‘boho’ signature style. Vanessa is famed for her wavy locks, laid back effortless chic style and festival wear. If there is any celebrity who knows how to dress for a summer festival, it’s her.

Similar to a real life Pocahontas, the dark featured beauty has this advantage when it comes to styling herself. There are many elements to Hudgen’s everyday look ranging from white flowing pieces and ripped denim to tie-dye skirts and print crops.

She is a walking advertisement for the maxi dress, using the lengthy garment to give her the appearance of height. A brightly coloured and bold printed maxi teamed with flat sandals is a classic everyday look for the actress.

Accessorising is key to this star’s wardrobe. Chained headbands, classy fedoras and an array of necklaces and bracelets all at once complete this boho chic look she is much loved for.

Irish Excel at LFW
From a fresh-faced model to stylists turned designers; the Irish certainly left their mark on London Fashion Week.

London Fashion Week saw contemporary designs by newcomer Lennon Courtney create a stir on the British fashion scene. Lennon Courtney received high praise for its cutting edge structured pieces designed to compliment the everyday woman.

A successful showcase with independent retailer Wolf & Badger resulted in attention from Vogue online in an article entitled ‘Irish Charm: What Women Want?’ The basic colour palette of navy and black with minor exceptions in feminine shades shows the pair took risks with their highly anticipated fashion week debut. Classic silhouettes with an urban edge define the work of the new designers.

Along with the success of Irish designers at London Fashion Week, a young model has also left a lasting impression on the British fashion event.

Clara McSweeney represented by the Andrea Roche Modelling Agency walked for three designers, Teatum Jones, Dominic Jones and Turkish designer Bora Aksu. When asked about the model’s recent success Andrea Roche said: “We are extremely proud of her as she has only just turned 16 and is doing so well. This is her second season for LFW and her agency there ‘Elite’ see huge potential in Clara.”

Clara is in her fourth year of secondary school, balancing this and modelling with international labels in the UK. With striking features, long blonde locks and comparisons being made to Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, this Irish model has a bright future ahead.

InBeauty: Rimmel Sunshimmer Tan
Rimmel have given their version a new look along with added benefits. The new Sunshimmer ambassador, Made in Chelsea’s Binky Felstead, certainly fits the part with her year round sun kissed complexion.

The product’s new bottle is modern, glossy and sporting a new colour scheme. Sunshimmer instant tan is available in a Matte or Shimmer version with light and medium shades. Along with the re-launch, Rimmel have launched a new product, which incorporates BB cream into instant tan.

I used the Sunshimmer Instant Tan Matte in Medium to test the product for wearability and durability. Application and the transfer of tan to clothes can be issues with most tans also so wearing a white top a few minutes after application was a good test. The consistency of the tan is not too watery or too thick and I found a little went a long way.

Unless it is applied fast and thoroughly however it will result in streaks as it dries quickly. If this does happen a few drops of water on cotton wool will remove the streak and you can go again. Sunshimmer gives you a rich (not orange) glow that lasts the whole night. My experience with other tans has resulted in the colour wearing off half way through the evening but with this product it stayed glowing until the next day.

One problem with Sunshimmer in the past was its lack of resistance to even a drop of water. On a rainy day or night this is not an ideal aspect for fake tan. However, with the new product, even washing my hands didn’t wear the colour away instantly. The problem has been solved.

Described as ‘Flawless tan for body and face’ water resistant, wash off and transfer resistant it remains at the top with the best of instant tanning products.
