Zara Doyle – Candidate for Institute of Education Faculty Rep

Shauna Ledwidge

Zara Doyle is a first-year Education and Training student hoping to represent the Institute of Education faculty. She is the only candidate running for the position.

Doyle is running as she hopes to make a difference in the institute of education. “I feel I will do a good job at representing the faculty and I will be able to bring fresh ideas to the SU,” she said.

She hopes to increase communication with students regarding placement after speaking with class representatives she found communication between the college and students has been lacking.

If elected, Doyle will seek that staff consult the Students’ Union on decisions about placement and plans to send out bi-weekly or monthly newsletters to all students in the faculty of education.

She also hopes to hold events in 2021 and 2022 if government guidelines allow for it. She hopes to give students an insight as to what it is like to work in the teaching industry by inviting guest speakers such as graduates and teachers to come in and talk to students.

“I am really looking forward to running events and workshops. I have some really good ideas and hopefully, we can experience them on campus.”

Another point in her manifesto is to provide students with greater international opportunities. She hopes to work with course heads to get better Erasmus options for students in the institute of education and with staff to get students an international school experience and work experience.

Doyle wants to collaborate with companies and charities for j1 opportunities and camp counsellor program in the US, volunteer options abroad such as Solan and GVI as well as more information sessions on what it is like to teach abroad.

Voting for DCUSU elections takes place on March 24th and 25th. Information on all candidates can be found at https://www.lead.dcusu.ie/
