[dropcap]D[/dropcap]CU’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences has placed in the top 200 universities globally for its subject choices in Arts and Humanities.
This is the first time that DCU has ranked for Arts and Humanities in the Times Higher Education University Rankings.
The World University Rankings include more than 1,500 universities across 93 countries. The number of universities involved in the rankings worldwide makes it the largest and most diverse university rankings to date.
The status of universities is decided by using a number of performance analyses indicators across five key areas: Teaching and the learning environment; Research and its volume, income and reputation; Citations, its research and influence. Along with international outlook and industry income.
Congratulating DCU’s success, Professor John Doyle, Executive Dean of DCU’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences stated, that the universities achievement in the latest World University Ranking “is a testament to the Faculty’s research-led teaching and international research and collaborations and engagement.
“It is our vision that DCU’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences will be acknowledged as a centre of academic excellence both nationally and internationally.”
Professor Doyle continued: “Our substantial climb in rankings also points to the continued impact and benefit from the incorporation process which strengthened our expertise and broadened the scale and diversity of our programmes.”
The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is DCU’s largest faculty, with over 3,600 current students. The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in DCU offers 13 undergraduate programmes, 24 postgraduate programmes and 7 research programmes.
They also have state-of-the-art language laboratories, multimedia studios and tv/radio studios. The Faculty in DCU’s Arts and Humanities has a strong profile of international standing and includes a staff made up of world-renowned writers, poets, playwrights and political commentators.
The university also ranked in the top 250 universities for Social Sciences. Five of the faculty’s individual disciplines are also ranked in the QS top 300 universities in the world.
DCU’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences has almost 200 research students, an average of 10 monographs and 125 international peer-reviewed publications per year. The Faculty also has an average externally generated research expenditure of over 3 million euro per year.
This years World University Rankings analysed more than 80 million citations across more than 13 million research publications. The rankings also included survey responses from around 22,000 scholars around the world.
