DCU has ranked within the top 500 best universities in the world in the new Times Higher Education (THE) world university rankings published recently.
Comprised of 800 universities around the world, this is the first time DCU has made the cut since the issue began in 2010.
THE compares and contrasts many details about each university in order to decide the ranking it receives including the research carried out, the amount of PhDs awarded by the college and the ethnic diversity of both the staff and students of the college.
Despite a relatively low ranking in the overall category, DCU have broken into the top 100 universities aged under 50 years, coming in at number 75.
DCU has also ranked in the top 20 per cent of universities based on its ethnic diversity.
UCD have risen almost 50 places to 176 while Trinity College Dublin have dropped from 138 to 160, its lowest ranking since THE started.
THE is one of two university ranking systems published this year with QS publishing their rankings recently.
DCU came in at 351 on that list with UCD finishing at 154 and TCD in 78th place.
