The number of CAO points required to secure campus accommodation in DCU has risen from 500 to 570 points this year.
20 students who received CAO offers for DCU this year have secured campus accommodation, leaving over 800 incoming students waiting to see if they will get one of 250 spaces available.
DCU SU Welfare Officer Domhnaill Harkin has said that the housing crisis facing universities across the country is proving to be “an even greater barrier to student” ahead of the start of the academic year in September.
The SU has also contacted staff in DCU asking them if they would be able to offer rooms to students in need of accommodation.
In an email to all staff, the Union appealed to people in the “adjoining area to Dublin City University, who may have a room or rooms available in their house to consider opening it up to students.”
Campus rent in DCU has gone up by 3% in the last year, with prices for one year ranging from €4,172 to €4,722.
