An increase in demand for places in the DCU Business School led to a significant increase in points for DCU business programmes in CAO offers this year.
Points for programmes in the business school have seen increases of up to 40 points, with European Business with Spanish seeing the biggest increase in points in the school.
DCU’s highest points programme this year is European Business with Transatlantic Studies at 545 points.
The demand for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) programmes is also reflected among DCU’s highest points programmes. Points for Actuarial Mathematics this year is 515, Athletic Therapy and Training is 510 points and Psychology, 500 points.
Common Entry to Engineering has risen 90 points since 2011 to 390 points in 2013.
Environmental Science and Health has increased 30 points to 435, while Common Entry to Science and Genetics & Cell biology have both risen by 15 points.
The School of Communications BA in Journalism, which was down 30 points last year from 2011, has increased by 25 points this year to 435 points.
Responding to this year’s points trend in DCU, DCU President Brian MacCraith said the increase in points for certain programmes “reflects both the strong demand and high level of competition for places on programmes dedicated to developing enterprise and career focused graduates.”
This year will also see the first group of students come to DCU to study the new BA (Hons) Arts programme, which proved very popular in CAO applications. Almost 100 students were offered a place in the new programme in the first round of offers.
