Musician Emeli Sandé has joined a star-studded list as she has been presented with the James Joyce Award from the Literary and Historical Society at University College Dublin.
The Scottish singer-songwriter has been honoured for her outstanding excellence in her chosen field. Previous winners of the award include Harry Potter author J.K Rowling, former White Stripes frontman, Jack White and the Beatle’s music producer.
The award is named after UCD graduate and author of Ulysses, James Joyce, who is considered to be one of the most influential writers of the early twentieth century.
At her own request, Sandé performed a stunning rendition of her hit single “Next to Me” to hundreds of UCD students who turned out to see her receive the award. Members of the audience were then allowed to ask any questions that they had for the singer.
A relaxed and friendly Sandé told her fans to “take time and discover music yourself and dedicate yourself to your craft”.
Earlier this year, the talented musician also performed in the opening and closing ceremonies at the London 2012 Olympics. She recently won awards for both Best Female and Best R&B/Soul Artist at the recent MOBO Awards in Liverpool.
