Review of Kylie Minogue – The Abbey Road Sessions

With The Abbey Road Sessions, pop diva Kylie Minogue has hung up her trademark gold hot-pants in favour of a more sophisticated sound

The album has been released to mark the Australian singer’s twenty-fifth year in the music industry. The album showcases a number of Kylie classics that have been re-invented at London’s Abbey Road studio – a venue made famous by The Beatles

Gone are the days where auto-tune was heavily featured on each track. This album sees Miss Minogue’s vocals completely stripped back and accompanied by a full orchestra. It is a bold move for the former Neighbours actress who is most famously known for her pert bum and dance floor anthems. The sound of this album is much softer when compared to previous releases.

Critics will be quick to point out that the new ballad style does not suit old favourites such as “All the Lovers” and “I Believe in You”. It is evident in some tracks that Kylie’s voice just is not strong enough to accompany the presence of a full orchestra

Despite this, most of the album has resulted in relaxing, beautiful ballads that make for a very easy listen. “Can’t Get You out of My Head” and “Locomotion” will still have you singing along to the catchy lyrics. The only new track to feature on the album, “Flower”, is also bound to be a hit with die-hard fans.
With The Abbey Road Sessions it is safe to say that the pint-sized pop princess has well and truly grown-up.
