Sexual Health Awareness and Guidance (SHAG) Week hits DCU this week and students can get more than they might expect in exchange for the condoms they carry.
Today, students can present condoms at the counter in the restaurant in exchange for a free bottle of water, while in the NuBar, Thirsty Thursday kicks off at 7pm tomorrow night; students will get €1 off cocktails as well as concession prices on beer if they bring a condom to the bar.
Neil Collins, SU Welfare Officer has spent the last few weeks preparing for this week’s events, including bringing in top Irish model, Lisa Nolan, to promote the week with a SHAG-themed photo shoot.
“The SHAG week we have planned for is going to be a big one, I don’t think there’s been anything like it before. I’m afraid with the likes of SHAG week, that’s what it’s going to be, it’s going to be a big campaign for a week but hopefully this SHAG week has enough impact that it has a lasting effect.”
The big SHAG giveaway will be happening in The Hub throughout today starting from 11am, where the SU will be handing out free condoms, lube and
prizes. They will also be revealing the “Sexpression Board”.
SHAG celebrations will continue tonight in The Village for the SHAG Ball at 10pm; tickets will be €5 at the door.
Tomorrow, sex confessions will be revealed in the premiere of ‘ The SHAG Pad’ video, upstairs in the SU at 1pm. There will also be a talk on the psychology of sexuality at 6pm tomorrow in The Hub.
As well as your cheap cocktail- for-condom exchange in the Nu Bar, Thirsty Thursday will wrap up SHAG week with speed dating, sex-position Twister, and dancers, all starting at 7pm.
