DCU’s Raising and Giving society last week represented Ireland at the 2012 Enactus World Cup.
Enactus, formerly known as SIFE, is a non-profit organisation that challenges the world’s students to create innovative solutions to real world problems.
The Rag Soc competed against 38 different countries in the presence of more than 500 global business leaders.
Speaking to The College View, Ronan O’Dalaigh, of Rag Soc said they got on very well at the event. “Although we didn’t get through the first round it was our first year and the other countries are much, more experienced, we were commended for the amount of success we have achieved in such a short time”.
While in Washington for the event the rag team, Daithí de Buitlér, Ronan O’Dálaigh, Sallyanne Downes, Evelyn Boyle, Hannah Dobson and Paul Gillick saw “a culture fair of countries wearing traditional clothes, singing and dancing”.
They also got to meet some of the world’s leading executives including the Irish ambassador Michael Collins. The opening and closing ceremonies involved over 1,500 people with flag waving and chanting.
Over 3,000 students, educators and business leaders attended the Enactus World Cup.
USA’s Belmont University were named the champions of this year’s event for their “Spring Back recycling” programme.
